Road Trip To Koronadal City, South Cotabato Sep 03

Tuesday Sept 2nd I awoke at 6am and was out the door by 6:15am. After having a cup of coffee and filling up my “to go” coffee mug, I headed out for Koronadal City in South Cotobato. I was traveling on the first leg of my journey with my sales and marketing Rep. Alex Mamba.

After picking up Alex we would first go to General Santos City, about a 3 hour drive in normal traffic. We arived in Toril just after 7am and  we were listening to 100.3 Hit Radio. My company IDX Web Designs developed the radio stations website. Since we have a few contacts there, I suggested that Alex txt the on air DJ and ask them to play a song for us. Johnny Cash, Ring of Fire. Un-fortunately, they didn’t have any Johnny Cash, so we made it easy on them and requested ANY song by John Denver. The DJ at 100.3 Hit Radio was happy to ablige and even wished us both a safe and happy jorney to Koronadal City live on the air.

When we arrived in Gensan, I stopped in at my in-laws house to visit my eldest son who is 4 years old, Curtis Jr. He had traveled to Gensan a few days before with his grandmother.  I really missed him after only just a few days. We gave each other a big hug and I told him that I would continue on to Koronadal City and be back later in the day. From there, Alex and I headed to the General santos Branch office of IDX Web Designs to pickup my sales and marketing Rep. His name is Ray Jose. Before leaving Gensan, I needed to book a room for the night. A good friend of mine suggested that I check out CAMBRIDGE FARM HOTEL so ray, Alex and I went to check it out. Its kinda off the beaten path, but not hard to find. Upon arrival, we were shown 3 different rooms, ranging in price from 1500php a night down to 400php a night. I selected the room for 600 pesos a night. It was very nice, had 1 room with a Kitchenette and a Bar. The bedroom was big and both rooms each had a fan. No aircon or TV in the 600 a night room, but, my room was just next to the reception area bar where they had cable TV. After booking the room, we were off to Koronadal City.

Its about a 45 minute drive from Gensan to Koronadal City. The road is very good and 4 lanes nearly all the way. Not much traffic and easy driving, almost like in the US. Its very suprizing that way down there in the middle of South Cotabato, there roads are much better and smoother than we have here in Davao.

After Ray, Alex and I arrived in Koronadal City, we had a very busy schedule meeting local business men interested in developing a website for there business. For lunch, both of my sales reps suggested that we have Kaldereta Kambing. Its a local specilty using Goat meat. I was not very thrilled, but decided to give it a try. Actually, it was pretty good, but I would have liked it even better if they would have cut the meat into chunks and left out all the bones. I had previously eaten Goat meat while on vacation in Vietnam, so this was my second time to try it.

After a whirlwind day of meetings and coffee, more meetings and more coffee, we finally headed back to Gensan and arrived there at around 10pm. Long day. I was very tired, but dropped Alex and Ray off and went to visit my in-laws and son Curtis Jr. I visited with them for about 15 minutes then went back to CAMBRIDGE FARM HOTEL.

When I arrived at CAMBRIDGE FARM HOTEL, I was greeted by the British owner, Chris Dearne and his wife. Chris invited me to have a beer and I was happy to ablige. After some plesant conversation and a few San Miguel Pilsen. I was ready for bed. I  still had to return early the next morning to Koronadal City with my sales and marketing reps, Alex and Ray. We still needed to deliver our website development proposals to the companies that we had met with.

We headed out the next morning at 9am. I picked up the guys at the IDX Web Designs Gensan office. We made it a quick visit on day 2 and we were back in Gensan by 1pm. I dropped Ray at the IDX Web Designs Gensan office, then Alex and I went to my in-laws to get my son Curtis Jr. and my mother in law. They would join us on the way back to Davao.

The return trip was un-eventful and we arrived back in davao around 5pm. I showered, ate dinner, kissed my wife and was out the door for a 7pm meeting with a local Davao client.

I am now in my office writing this blog and its almost 1am the next day. I think its time to go home and have a beer.

Its Miller Time 8-)
