Ma-a Shrine Hill, long the subject of rumor and fear concerning placement of subdivisions on the slopes of this unstable hill has area residents in an uproar concerning the reported presence of unidentified flying objects (UFO) recently. A flood of callers reported bright objects like glowing balls flowing upstream in Ma-a Creek and then up the sides of Shrine Hill disappearing into crevices. Could these be the lanterns of secret treasure hunters seeking Yamashita’s Gold or the real thing?
So far, no pictures but we will keep you posted. Anyone with knowledge
of this strange event, please write in

I had an experience in 1967 while being driven back to Madison WI from Marshfield WI by 2 county Deputies. Sitting the back seat with a friend the deputies noticed two lights in the sky that they both were really freaked about. I was 17 and remember the 2 strange vehicles in the sky but was more concerned with the conseqences of what would happen back home with my parents. I remember the two Deputies agreeing that they would not mention it to their station ( they talked about calling it in but decided not to ) because they would be ridiculed. In later years I realized what we might have been witnessing.

As widely known, Mindanao for many many years after WWII was home to unrepatriated and unrepenitent Japanese Soldiers.
These were soldiers who for many reasons did not go back to Japan after the war, but hid out in the mountain jungles and raised families with local women, only coming down occasionally to steal farm implements or chickens, still carrying their swords and wearing ragged garrison caps.
The soldiers were hiding in the jungles of the Philippines for about 60 years
May 27, 2005 – PRAVDA A lieutenant and a lance-corporal of the Imperial Japanese Army were found in the jungle of Mindanao Island, the Philippines. The two Japanese military men have been hiding there since the end of WWII over the fear of being punished for desertion.
The found soldiers did not even know that WWII was over a long time ago. Local authorities are currently holding the two elderly deserters, aged over 80. In the near future the Japanese military men will have a meeting with spokespeople for the Japanese embassy in the Philippines, Tokyo newspapers write. Several other former servicemen of the Japanese army might be hiding in the out-of-the-way place in the south of Mindanao, Itar-Tass reports.
Agents of the Philippine counterintelligence incidentally found the former Japanese lieutenant, 87 and the former lance-corporal, 83, during an operation in the area.
The 87-year-old Yoshio Yamakawa and the 83-year-old Sudzuki Nakauti were serving in the 30th infantry division of the Imperial Army, which landed on the Philippine Island of Mindanao in 1944. The unit suffered considerable losses as a result of US-led massive bombings. The Japanese infantry unit was ordered to start a guerrilla warfare in the jungle. The remainder of the division were later evacuated to Japan, although some of its servicemen did not have enough time to appear at the assembly point and became deserters against their own will.
The found lieutenant and the lance-corporal were reportedly very scared of the court martial in case they are sent back to their fatherland. Japanese soldiers unaware of the end of WWII were previously found in other remote places on the islands in the Pacific Ocean. Junior lieutenant Hiroo Onoda was found in the jungle of the Philippine island of Lubang in 1974. Another solitary soldier of one of the infantry units was found in 1972 on the island of Guam, which currently belongs to the USA
Some are saying that ghosts of WWII Japanese soldiers still occupy the concrete pill boxes and tunnels that run for kilometers around Shrine Hill and, some same, out to Catalunan Grande and even as far a Calinan.
The nearest entrance to the tunnel network is said to be at the “Japanese Tunnel” restaurant off Diversion Road. There is a steel door that guides say was installed because other land owners above the tunnels do not wish tourists and curiosity seekers to use.
How might an expedition be organized to confirm the extent of the Tunnels?
